MMA meets Nickelodeon

I never thought I would use those two words in the same sentence.

Anyway, there is some show called ‘iCarly’ on the Nickelodeon network, and they produced a childrens movie with a mixed martial arts theme .

My friend Germain wrote a pretty good description about the movie, so I won’t get into it here. You can find his story here. It’s worth checking out.

Fedor Emelianenko will be in the EA Sports MMA video game

Accorsing to Gamespot.com Fedor Emelianenko will be in the new mixed martial arts game produced by EA Sports.

EA has also acquired Renato Sobral and Gegard Mousasi to appear as fighters in the game. While these are big names to the hardcore MMA fan, EA sports is going to have a hard time competing with the UFC video game that was released earlier in the year.

Dana White will not allow any fighters on his active roster to appear in the game, and for pretty good reason. Apparently EA Sports shunned him when White approached the company with the video game idea.

“But let me tell you what–I’ve been in the trenches for almost 10 years, and I’ve been dealing with all these businesses, and EA was one of them. EA Sports told us, ‘You’re not a real sport. We wouldn’t touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this.'” , said White.

In order to add some appeal to the video game, I have come up with a list of potential characters that might draw the attention of not only the hardcore MMA fan, but the casual fan as well.

Chuck Rydell – A fictional light heavyweight legend of the MMA world, known for his brutal one punch knockout power.

Carnage Jackson – A wrestler turned boxer known for his antics inside and outside the ring. He’d also compete in the light heavyweight division.

Ryoto Lachida – This fictional fighter would be touted as the most “elusive” fighter in the game. While most of the fighters would be labeled as kickboxers, wrestlers, or BJJ experts, Ryoto would be known for his Karate.

Andersen “The Tarantula” Salva – A muay thai/BJJ expert who has endured success in both the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.

“The Enigma” JD Benn – An MMA champion whose BJJ and boxing are on another level. JD is another character who has tasted success outside of his weight class.

Just a few off of the top of my head.

TMZ.com reports UFC veteran Kimo Leopoldo has died

If they weren’t the first media outlet to confirm the Michael Jackson death I would probably be a bit more skeptical, but TMZ.com is reporting that Kimo Leopoldo has died at age 41.

Kimo was 10-7-1 in his MMA career.

Betting lines and analysis for UFC 99

UFC 99 airs tomorrow from Cologne, Germany.

UFC 99 Main Card Bouts:

-Wanderlei Silva vs. Rich Franklin
-Cheick Kongo vs. Cain Velasquez
-Ben Saunders vs. Mike Swick
-Dan Hardy vs. Marcus Davis
-Caol Uno vs. Spencer Fisher
-Mustapha Al-Turk vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic

UFC 99 Preliminary Bouts:

-Justin Buchholz vs. Terry Etim
-Dale Hartt vs. Dennis Siver
-Paul Taylor vs. Peter Sobotta
-Roli Delgado vs. Paul Kelly
-Stefan Struve vs. Denis Stojnic
-Rick Story vs. John Hathaway

Here are some notable  betting odds; I got these from bodoglife.com

Cain Velasquez -155
Cheick Kongo +150

Analysis: A little strange to see the UFC veteran Cheick Kongo the underdog in this fight, but he did take the bout on short notice and Cain Velasquez is steam rolling through the heavyweight competition. Kongo is hungry for a win because he feels a win would put him directly in line for a heavyweight title shot.

Kongo has steadily improved, and will be Velasquez’ toughest test to date.
If you like betting the underdog, this is a pretty good fight to drop a few bucks on.

Mike Swick -205
Ben Saunders +165

Analysis: No surprises here. Swick, the more experienced of the two fighters, is favored. This fight has fight of the night potential, as both guys are explosive and fast and are hungry for the knockout. In these types of fights, anything can happen, so , again, if you like to bet on the underdog…

Marcus Davis -215
Dan Hardy +175

Analysis: I love a good grudge match. This will be a stand up war, as both of these guys are predominately stand up fighters and really want to knock the other guy out. I wouldn’t bet against Marcus Davis. I think he is going to be a little too much for Hardy to handle.

Mirko Cro Cop -500
Mostapha Al Turk +300

Analysis: This fight has upset of the night written all over. Cro Cop has claimed he has rededicated himself to fighting and wants to make a run at the UFC heavyweight title. He has also faced very sub par competition since leaving the UFC. Mirko has virtually no ground game what so ever, and Mustapha likes to ground and pound his opponents.

I’d love to see a vicious old school Cro Cop knockout, but who knows.

NOTE: As i was typing this analysis, bodog just changed the odds on this fight significantly. Mirko is now at -375 and Mustapha Al Turk is at +285. Every 1 dollar spent on Mustapha will pay out 2.85.

Rich Franklin -150
Wanderlei Silva +120

Analysis: After losing 4 of his last 5, It’s no surprise Wanderlei is the underdog here. Still, he is Wanderlei Silva and has the ability to knock your head into the 28th row at any given time. I am really anxious to see this fight. The +120 isn’t enticing enough for me to drop serious dough on Wanderlei.

Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson are parents to twin boys

Tito Ortiz’ long time girlfriend, Jenna Jameson, gave birth to twin boys early Monday morning. Both boys are reported to be healthy, according to Jameson’s rep.

I find it quite amusing that Ortiz’ sons were born so close to St. Patrick’s Day, seeing as he has made a career of trash talking and demolishing Ken Shamrock in the MMA world.
