I recently had the opportunity to speak with “The Muscle Shark” Sean Sherk, who is coming off of an impressive and dominating victory over Tyson Griffin at UFC 90. Sherk has stated that he wants the winner of the Stevenson/Florian match up that takes place at UFC 91. Sherk also believes that the winner of that proposed match up is the number one contender in the UFC lightweight division and should probably be next in line for a title shot.

Sherk brings up some pretty valid points in our discussion:

Q: You mentioned that you want the winner of the Stevenson and Florian fight. Provided the UFC gave you that match up and you won, would you expect a title shot?
A: I would think so. I mean that is the reason why I want that fight because I think the winner of that fight (Stevenson/Florian) and myself would be the top two contenders. You throw the top two contenders at each other and you have the top dog. I would expect to get a title shot , but with BJ being gone from the division for so long, who really knows what is going to happen.

Sean gave me his opinion on naming an interim lightweight champion, his desire to fight Joe Stevenson over Kenny Florian, his thoughts on Lesnar and Couture, and a lot more.

“Here’s my beef with Kimbo Slice… I’ll give it to you too that he is training and taking it serious, but this guy was fighting in back yards a few months ago. The reality is if I put Kimbo Slice on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ the reality show, he wouldn’t win it.”

Dana With must have been smiling ear to ear last Saturday when he found out that “Ultimate Fighter 2” cast member Seth Petruzelli would replace Ken Shamrock as Kimbo Slice’s opponent for the main event of CBS/EliteXC Saturday Night Fights.

Seth Petruzelli drops Kimbo Slice with a short right (Photo Courtesy of EliteXC)

Petruzelli was a member of the cast of “The Ultimate Fighter 2” and competed as a heavyweight. He was eliminated in the semi-finals by MMA newcomer Brad Imes after defeating Dan Christison by unanimous decision in an elimination bout.

Seth Petruzelli’s career in the UFC did not last long. He lost to both Matt Hamill and Wilson Gouveia before being released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He took a year off from sanctioned competition and was unceremoniously welcomed back to the cage by being thrown right into the main event against EliteXC’s golden boy.

To Petruzelli’s credit, he showed the world what can happen when you have made a career, and a life, out of training in the martial arts.

Petruzelli’s dominance over Kimbo Slice is a nightmare for EliteXC. Their number one draw was defeated by a light heavyweight who couldn’t cut it in the best mixed martial arts promotion in the world; furthermore, Petruzelli made Kimbo look like a complete amateur. Kimbo mounted no offense whatsoever. A 14 second knockout is completely embarrassing for the hyped fighter.

This fight isa testament of the true skill that it takes to complete at a high level in mixed martial arts. Kimbo Slice may have the heart of a warrior and be legitimately training MMA, but it’s going to be years before he is a real threat to any fighter who has competed in the highest level of the game. If Seth Petruzelli can expose his flaws in 14 seconds, I can only imagine what the upper echelon of UFC talent would do to him.

A few weeks ago, I posted a blog about Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s appearance on the nationally syndicated Opie and Anthony radio show. I posted a few random comments made by the UFC light heavyweight champ. In one of those comments, Jackson said Wanderlei Silva refered to Wanderlei Silva as the “Chump Murderer”, not the “Axe Murderer”.

I just came across an interview published on www.fighthype.com. The interviewer, Percy Crawford, asks Rampage about the controversial comment made about Silva:

I didn’t call Wanderlei the “Chump Murderer.” I ain’t never said nothing like that. That is kind of disrespectful. I just said he was fighting chumps. If people want to put words in my mouth, they need to grow the hell up. I don’t care nothing about some fans getting mad because I’m being a fighter.

Later in the interview:

I can say whatever I want. I am in America and part of being in America is that we have freedom of speech, but I did not say Forrest Weakchin and Wanderlei Chump Murderer. I did not say those words.

This is where the discrepancy lies. I am not sure what controversial comments were said about Forrest, but Quinton blatantly calls Wanderlei “The Chump Murderer”.

I listen to Opie and Anthony every day. I remember this interview very clearly because it is not very often that Opie and Anthony book UFC fighters; when they do I make sure I listen very carefully.

According to the audio from the Opie and Anthony show, Quinton blatantly called Wanderlei “The Chump Murderer”.
