Hopefully you didn’t put money on my predictions from UFC 89 because they flat out stunk.

For what they are worth, here are my thoughts on UFC 90 – Silva Vs. Cote

Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote
Anything can happen in MMA. That being said, I don’t think Patrick Cote stands a chance against Spider Silva. He isn’t better at any one thing then Anderson Silva. People talk of the strength of Cote’s chin, but when Anderson Silva hits you, he doesn’t stop hitting you. Give that man an opening, and you are toast.

Prediction: Anderson Silva – KO Round 1

Sean Sherk vs. Tyson Griffin
I don’t see this fight being very exciting, but I am rarely excited for a Sean Sherk fight. It’s going to be take down after take down after take down. In some people’s eyes, Tyson Griffin is the better wrestler. I don’t know about that, but what I do know is that Sean Sherk is a beast of a lightweight and will probably be able to control Griffin pretty easily. I see Sherk controlling the ground game while peppering Griffin with body blows and elbows to the head.

Prediction: Sean Sherk – Unanimous Decision

Thiago Alves vs. Josh Koscheck
Interesting match up. Alves was supposed to take on Diego Sanchez, but Sanchez was injured during training and now finds himself opposite another TUF alumni in Josh Koscheck. I think the Diego fight is a better match up for Alves. I think that Koscheck will return to his roots for this fight and try to out wrestle the bigger, stronger fighter in Thiago Alves.

If Koscheck chooses to stand with Alves, it’s going to be lights out. His stand up is not very good at all. I do believe that he can grind out a decision by out wrestling Alves, so I am going with Kos on this one.

Prediction: Josh Koscheck – Unanimous Decision

Hermes Franca vs. Marcus Aurelio
This should be a good match. Both of these guys are excellent jiu-jitsu practioners, and I love a good submission. I think Franca may have a bit of an edge with the stand up game. Franca has not looked the same since his one year layoff for a steroid suspension, and during that time Aurelio has managed to stay pretty active. I think Aurelio will be able to pull it off in the end, and squeak out a decision against Franca.

Prediction: Marcus Aurelio – Unanimous Decision

Fabricio Werdum vs. Junior dos Santos
I don’t really know what to say about this one. Santos is a UFC newcomer who has never taken a fight to a decision. That being said, he is facing MMA veteran Fabricio Werdum and that is a big task as your first fight in the UFC. I’m going to take Werdum by TKO on this one.
