Dana White is hearing the footsteps of the other MMA organizations. Good Luck Dana because you need a change.

Thanks for the comment - I have heard time and time again that Zuffa would never pay out a huge purse...

You say :
>This is a business and ROI is the bottom line… if a >Mayweather MMA fight will draw enough PPV buys to cover the >signing cost, why wouldn’t Zuffa make the deal?

And I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for checking in.

The announcement will likely be a better TV deal with one of the majors... FOX is likely. Mayweather may very well sign a one fight deal, and the money may very well be worth considering. This is a business and ROI is the bottom line... if a Mayweather MMA fight will draw enough PPV buys to cover the signing cost, why wouldn't Zuffa make the deal? If Mayweather's people believe the draw would pay, then all they need to do is negotiate for a % of the buy. As to weight classes... Dana has stated very clearly that WEC will host the lighter weight classes, and the UFC will have the heavier fighters. So, if they have signed Mayweather and have inked a better deal for either or both (WEC and UFC), it would make sense that Mayweather would fight under the WEC brand and help to catapult the WEC into the MMA mainstream. Just an uneducated opinion on a half-baked topic.

I don't see Floyd getting into MMA. I've covered him his entire career and I just don't see him being willing to take such a huge pay cut. We're talking about a guy that is commanding $15-$20 million per fight in boxing. There is no way Dana will come close to any kind of purse like that. The big announcment will probably be a network deal with Fox. That's my guess.

I will be disappointed if Dana's announcement is anything less than an agreement to air UFC fights on a broadcast network.

Dana White basically created those weight classes, and he will create new ones if he decides to take the sport in a new direction. As much power as the athletic commissions have, they need the cash cow that is the UFC.

Those weight classes aren't set in stone. EliteXC's lightweight division is 160 pounds.

Mayweather is a competitor; he has done all he can in boxing. Why not carry that warrior spirit over to MMA?

Who says Dana won't pay a huge purse? It's an investment, and it would pay off. It would legitimize the sport in the eyes of boxing fans, and the audience would grow a whole new fan base.

As far as title fights go, the champs need to be defending their belts on a regular basis. They get tied up in TUF seasons and we get non title fight main events until TUF is squared away.

I want to see champions defending their belts on a regular basis. If you want to fork over 45 bucks for Liddell vs. a TUF fighter, that is your agenda.

No way is Dana White going to either sign Mayweather or add a featherweight division to the UFC.

First of all, Dana White would not be willing to pay Mayweather the money he would ask for. Mayweather has too much to lose fighting MMA for him to do it for MMA size purses.

As far as creating a 150 and a 160 weight class, the Unified Rules of MMA have standardized the weight classes, and I don't see the UFC trying to change the rules. And if they were to bring the featherweight class to the UFC, that would be a huge blow to Zuffa's other product, the WEC, because Urijah Faber is basically it's face. I don't think they would do that to themselves.

Also, why does the UFC have to have a title fight on all of their PPV cards. There have been plenty of cards that have not had title fights on them and it was not because of a champ or challenger pulling out of a fight. UFC 74 was headlined by Rich Franklin and Yushin Okami. UFC 76, Liddell vs Jardine; the list goes on. I don't have any problem with it. I don't like it when there aren't any fights that have implications within any of the UFC divisions, but it's a bit much to expect a title fight on every card.
