If Serra loses to GSP, Matt Hughes will be waiting

April

Matt Hughes recently posted his opinion on the Serra/GSP II fight.

Since we’re on the subject of GSP/Serra, honestly, I think GSP will win this fight very decisively. I don’t think that a submission will play a role in the fight. Obviously, Matt has power in his hands, so I don’t think Georges will make the same mistake this time of standing right in front of him. So, once again, I think Georges will be victorious. I’ve already asked the UFC that if Serra loses, I get him.

Notice that Hughes uses the phrase “If Serra loses”. It looks like Matt Hughes has come to terms with the fact that he is no longer the king of the welterweights, and does not expect the UFC to hand him the defending champion.

The two were originally set to fight at UFC 79, but Serra suffered an injury to his back that put him on the sidelines for a year. GSP stepped in to utterly destroy Matt Hughes and claim the interim welterweight championship.

I am dying to see a Serra/Hughes bout. I’d rather see this fight then Serra/GSP II. There is bad blood between the two fighters and I think it is a great match up style wise. Serra’s hands are obviously light years ahead of Hughes, but it would be interesting to see if Hughes superior wrestling ability would neutralize the superior jiu-jitsu of Matt Serra. I personally don’t think it would, and I think Serra would come out on top in this match.

I am no fan of Matt Hughes , though, so perhaps some bias plays a role in that thought process.
