Tim Sylvia set to make huge announcement Friday night

March
27

According to Tim Sylvia’s personal blog, he will making a huge announcement regarding his future in mixed martial arts. The former UFC heavyweight champion posted this yesterday:

March 26, 2008 – On Friday, around 12:00, I’ve got a couple of big announcements to make about my career. So all of my loyal fans will want to stay tuned to my website because this is huge. -Tim

Today, he posted again:

March 27, 2008 – I’m sorry to disappoint everybody but some of the big news is going on this weekend. I’m going hunting with Gary LaVox from Rascal Flats. Driving down to Tennessee tomorrow to start turkey hunting. My hunting DVD comes out in four weeks, but this will be on next year’s hunting DVD. Now if you guys were expecting anything else, then you might want to watch HD Net Friday night, Inside MMA. Stay tuned for more. -Tim

Tim has been outspoken about fighter pay scales, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see another organization luring him in with a large offer.

Make sure you check out HDNet tomorrow night for all of the details.

Maybe EliteXC is trying to lure a couple more guys to strengthen their heavyweight competition? It’d be pretty cool to see a Silvia-Fedor match if they can sign both of them.

Sylvia has been calling out Fedor for awhile so it would make sense.

They still haven’t named an opponent for Kimbo yet, but I doubt they’d throw big Tim at him.

The UFC heavyweight division is rapidly becoming a joke. With Sylvia, Couture, and Crocop gone, and possibly Arlovski on the horizon, there’s absolutely no reason for Fedor to fight for Dana White anymore. He’s already owned Noguera twice and Heath Herring once so the argument that “there’s more competition in the UFC” is now a moot point.

I really thought the UFC would do everything in their power to keep big Tim around. He was the face of the division for awhile, and love him or hate him he usually finds a way to win fights.
