An old dude who works for a dying industry (sorry Larry, but it's true) doesn't understand the appeal of a hugely popular, relatively new sport and tries to paint it as barbaric because he heard from some guy, who heard from some other guy, that the sport was "rough" when it started more than a decade ago. Notice how Shapiro doesn't even claim to have watched any matches before dismissing the entire thing as "reprehensible." Then he compares it to Roman gladiatorial matches involving lions, which is kind of like how people who argue politics on the Internet like to invoke Hitler. You're right on -- this guy is an idiot.
