The UFC announced on Monday the entire card for their first Canadian event. UFC 83 takes place on April 19 and contains a slew of Canadian born fighters. This card will also serve to unify the UFC welterweight championship. Matt Serra will defend his UFC welterweight title against interim welterweight champion , and Canadian national, Georges “Rush” St. Pierre.
Serra defeated St. Pierre with a quick knockout to capture the welterweight title at UFC 69 – Shootout. Serra injured his back and was sidelined for a few months, thus creating the need for an interim welterweight champion. The titles will be unified at UFC 83.
